Where a long key will not swing

Long keys need swing room - and close to a wall, inside a cabinet or behind a machine guard there is none. Short arms work in the space a screw actually gives you, turning fasteners a full-length key cannot reach without fouling on everything around it.

Reach with the ball, tighten with the short arm

The 25 degree ball end is for access - it turns a screw at an angle when you cannot get in straight. Once the screw is seated, switch to the chamfered short arm for final tightening. It grips the full hex and takes the torque the ball end is not shaped for.
